A little less than a galactic standard week
J: A galactic standard week? How the hell long is that?
K: One hour.
According to the Homework Policy notice that came home from school today:
Fifth grade students will be assigned an average of 45 minutes per night. All homework will be graded and either a numeric grade or a completion grade will be earned.
with the priviso:
Please keep in mind that the time allotments listed are written with the average child in mind. An individual child may need more or less time depending on their proficiency in the subject area.
Gaz came home with a 4 sheet (2-sided) packet of math, a 3 sheet packet (2-sided) of Social Studies and 1 sheet (2-sided) of Science homework.
16 pages of homework in 45 minutes.
J:Oh, now that’s bullshit.
Exactly.

I have to say you sound like my mom, haha but that’s not bad at all. I’m not an adult, so you can just say yes I’m a minor. Anyway, it seems like schools today love not only giving children homework but the parents to! My brother is in 6th grade and comes home with a folder of homework and an essay with a certain amount of characters you have to use. Personally i don’t have trouble with it considering im older but he’s in 6th grade! And a boy… and this boy had trouble sitting still for 2 seconds, maybe not even that. Once 2 seconds is up he’s running straight the the PSP or Computer for his hour of “conor-time” is what me and my mom call it.
But being in high school I’m just going to be honest the teachers don’t give as much homework as they used to. Some of my teachers are just as lazy as the kids and no way do they want to grade 200 something papers. They rather go home and be happy with their family…. So be happy knowing you aren’t the only one who’s parent takes one look at the homework you’re child is assigned and go “WTF!” (:

Kate,
I’m glad to get a high schoolers perspective on all this. It makes me crazy the amount of homework the teachers give! Hello, you guys are kids. Some kids actually like to go outside and play or they have afterschool sports or activities.
My daughter is an all star cheerleader, she’s in the gym working out for about 6 hours a week. The gym she goes to is about a half hour away, so….
Plus, I just have a problem with the fact that not all kids are academics. Some kids are really creative and math and science are just not their thing. I hate the projects they send home. I refuse to do them. I help with the gluing and cutting, but concept-wise, it’s all on Gaz. I talked about it once before, here. I’m sick of other parents doing their kids work for them making kids that do their own work look bad. What’s worse is that PTO and everything they totally lie and say things like, “Oh I never do [insert name of over-achieving child here]’s work.” I so want to call them out on it, but I don’t.
Ugh!
